Gloria Macapagal Arroyo did it again - grabbing the credit due someone else.
The banner story of PDI’s Feb 5 issue cites business process outsourcing (BPO) as a GMA legacy. There was nowhere in the story that the call center industry started as an economic program under President Joseph Estrada.
It was President Erap who signed the E-commerce act, making the Philippines the fourth country to have such a law. GINNO CALLS FOR ERAP to run in 2010
Common sense dictates me to believe that Joseph Estrada is qualified for 2010 Presidential Election. The much quoted provision “The President shall not be eligible for any re-election. (Sec.4, Art VII)” should not be considered as legal obstacle for his candidacy. If the purpose of the law is to prohibit anyone to be elected twice as president, the constitution would have stated “no person shall serve for more than a single term in office as the President of the Republic”. Rather, the term President was used to emphasize that the person must assume the position before the said provision may apply.

For the Sake of Manny, Power, and Gloria Many political analysts are saying that corruption will be a hot issue in the 2010 Presidential Elections. However, a keen observer of the Philippine politics will tell you that it has already started, and should rightly so.
The eradication or at least moderation of corruption is the single most important key towards the upliftment of the standard of living in our beloved country. In the face of sprouting malls, roads, and bridges, we must be reminded that they do not represent economic development but just economic growth.
Thus, even if the current administration is touting that our economy is growing, it doesn't mean anything as far as the improvement of the general standard of living is concerned. Why?
Con-assed Arroyo boysOne thing is for sure with the issue of charter change. It is to prolong the term of the current president and monopolize political power. The Lower House of our congress, composed of mostly GMA allies, has been creating strategies and has already been persistent to push through with charter change by means of a constitutional assembly. Evidently, PGMA’s son Rep. Mikey Arroyo spearheads this. Our senators, mostly oppositions, has been the constantly presenting such a move from the House of Representatives. Desperation is now the last option for administration representatives since obviously they couldn’t achieve their goal of having a con-ass to amend the constitution.
Thus, the last option for Rep. Mikey Arroyo is the aid of the Supreme Court.

Erap is on the rise. Three weeks of delivering his campaign message on primetime TV is beginning to call attention to the significance of his struggle. We are getting feedback that the most popular Erap TV ad has been the one that shows a contrite Cory Aquino at the rostrum, apologizing for her role for the President’s ouster at Edsa II. Apparently, not very many Filipinos felt the impact of that event the first time they came across it in media, such that it takes time, and some reminders, for it to sink in. Of course, mainstream media also never gave this apology the amount of coverage it deserved. Cory’s candidate-son, in fact, shrugged it off as a joke, echoing the female Richelieu behind his mother, which was a quip devoid of any truth.
